A mid-year get together is the perfect way for teams to reconnect, review & course-correct

Rather than a nice to have, a mid-year review is often critical to an organisation’s success. Much like a regular oil check, it ensures that your team is running smoothly, that you haven’t drifted off course, and that everyone is onboard, aligned and functioning like a well-oiled machine.

Yes, January strategy sessions are fantastic. People are well-rested, fired up and ready to tackle the year ahead. But a lot can change in six months. Staff come and go, unexpected challenges – or new opportunities – crop up and, for hybrid teams especially, focus, morale and team communication can begin to slip.

In other words, a mid-year strategy session ensures you end the year as strongly as you started.

Not convinced? Here are just 5 good reasons to book a mid-year corporate getaway:

1. Check-in with your team

Your people are your biggest asset, but where are they personally? Are they still engaged and focussed? Or are they feeling tired and burned out? A corporate reset is a great way to gauge team morale – and give staff a mid-year boost if needed.

2. Refresh your focus

Does January feel like a long time ago? Are your 2023 goals already a distant memory? Maybe it’s time to refresh your focus and remind yourself – and your team – about the big picture

3. Measure progress

As Peter Drucker, the ‘father of modern business management’ once said, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” Put simply, if you don’t measure your progress, then how do you know if you’re doing well? Or poorly? A mid-year getaway is a great opportunity to pull out your data, analyse your dashboards, and see exactly where you stand. For example:

  • Are you where you want to be?
  • Are you still able to meet the year’s goals?
  • What needs more attention?
  • Are any goals no longer relevant?

4. Reset and recalibrate

Once you’ve analysed your progress you might need to recalibrate your plans. A June, July or August strategy session still allows time to course-correct, whereas November is too late.

5. Reflect and celebrate

Importantly, you’ll want to reflect on what’s gone right, mark any milestones and celebrate any wins. It’s a wonderful way to keep up momentum (and morale).
